Trend highlights for autumn and winter
Are you all set for the most important trading season of the year?
We’ve been identifying the dominant trends expected to influence product ranges throughout autumn and winter. We’ll be showcasing the best books across some of these themes, and more, at Top Drawer in September. Here’s a taster of what you can expect to find:
Comfortcore
We rediscovered our love of loungewear during the pandemic lockdowns and didn’t let it go. Last winter fashion reclaimed it, giving us comfort as a trend. The home interiors world jumped on board, promoting rich textures, colours and patterns, to replace the more minimalistic styles of seasons past. Trend or not, most of us crave comfort in the colder months. Books offer many ways to complement this aesthetic. We’re seeing lots of autumnal, earthy tones on covers, cookbooks that focus on nourishing recipes, and repackaged classic novels and story collections that all help set the scene. Happy comfort season.

Crafting
Earlier in the year we curated our Crafting and Escapism collection in response to the resurgence in the hobby. As we head into the darker, colder months it’s a perfect time to showcase our most on-trend arts and crafts titles as people seek out more mindful, indoor pursuits.

Winter self-care
Not only did Katherine May’s poetic memoir Wintering become a bestseller, it sparked a movement. The book showed us how to embrace the period as an opportunity for rest and retreat. Ever since its release we’ve seen a steady stream of winter wellness books arrive on the scene.

It’s wine time
Our drinks books always sell well at this time of year. Gin, whisky and cocktail books are always reliable choices. But this year we’re putting wine back on your radar (as if it ever left). There are some lovely new wine books that seriously deserve your attention.

Children’s nostalgia
As Millennials become firmly established in parenthood and Gen X starts to take on grandparent roles, we’re seeing a return of some of the best-loved children’s characters from the 20th century. We’ve observed an increase in requests for Richard Scarry and Moomins books, among others, and are also noting some classic designs on children's book covers. The ever-popular Story Orchestra series evokes Christmas nostalgia, and we’re absolutely loving the Wordsworth and Minalima editions of children’s classic novels. These will make beautiful gifts for a young relative at Christmas time.
