REWILDING (ICON)

Conservation in the 21st century has taken a radical turn. Instead of protecting species in nature reserves, like museum pieces frozen in time, experts increasingly believe we should allow landscape-sized areas to ‘rewild’ according to their own self-determined processes. These places will develop in ways that cannot always be predicted, and they may not conform to our traditional ideas of wildlife habitats. But they have the capacity to create a dynamic ecosystem which may be strong enough to withstand climate change and species shifts.
