Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito, Lancaster - the most iconic planes of WWII were all powered by one engine, the Rolls-Royce Merlin. The story of the Merlin is one of British ingenuity at its height, and encompasses the history of powered flight, Henry Royce sketching the design in the sand of his local beach, Lady Lucy Houston singlehandedly funding the development of the engine and the iconic Spitfire - and much more.
