Forty years ago, Steven Smith found a copy of a children’s book by disgraced author Edith Twyford with strange markings in the margins. His English teacher, Miss Iles, was convinced the book was the key to solving a puzzle which ran through all of Twyford’s novels. And then, on a class field trip, Miss Iles disappeared. Now, out of prison after a long stretch, Steven decides to investigate the mystery that has haunted him for decades and revisit the people and places of his childhood.
